Malaquite Beach Campground

The campground at Malaquite Beach is a great location to enjoy camping in the dunes along the Gulf of Mexico. Camping at Malaquite has limited amenities. Only toilets, fresh water rinse showers and picnic tables are provided. There are 50 designated sites (8 sites are for tent camping only, 26 are for tent or RV camping, and 16 are for RV's only). There are no hook-ups. However there is a gray water dump station and potable water filling station prior to entering the campground. Generators can not be run after 10 p.m. which can make July and August summer evenings a little warm. No reservations are taken for camping at Malaquite Beach but the campground is rarely full. During fall, winter, and spring usually less than half the sites are occupied. Camping permits can be obtained in the campground from campground host, the entrance station or at the Malaquite Visitor Center a 1/2 mile south of the campground.

Located in front of the Malaquite campground is a beach that is closed to vehicular traffic. The beach is about 4 1/2 miles long. The closed beach runs from the southern end of North Beach past the Malaquite Visitors Center (Malaquite Beach) to the northern tip of South Beach.
