"It's good to be On Padre Island"
North Padre Island is a unique coastal landscape. A barrier island located
within the city limits of Corpus
Christi, Texas the island has a distinct, relaxing, coastal
style which comes from miles of open beaches, white sand dunes and protected
wetlands. Bordered on the east by the Gulf of Mexico and on the west by the
Laguna Madre, North Padre Island
has one of the longest undeveloped
beaches in the world! The island offers abundant nature, seashore
breezes, scenic views and friendly people. All this complimented by a
relaxing, laid back community of coastal homes and vacation spots nestled in
the dunes and along the waters edge.
One of the greatest benefits of
North Padre Island is location, location, location! The Island is
situated just a short 20 minute drive from downtown Corpus Christi (the 8th
largest Texas city) yet provides immediate boat access to the Gulf
of Mexico through the Packery Channel. Modern convenience
meets world class fishing, family fun and many
outdoor activities
to view and do.
North Padre Island is
separated from the southern portion of the island by the Port Mansfield
Channel. The man made channel was dredged many years ago. The Port Mansfield
Jetty is the southern most tip of
North Padre island and is accessed only by four wheel drive vehicle or
boat. No matter what method of travel the journey through Padre
Island National Seashore (PINS)
to the jetty is long and remote but well worth the trip.
The northern portion of the north padre is divided by
Packery Channel. This channel is easily accessed
and provides Gulf of Mexico access by boat. Cross the bridge over Packery Channel from Upper or North Padre Island
and Mustang Island is reached. Mustang Island ends in
Port Aransas with the Corpus Christi
Ship Channel slicing the largest cut in the island chain.
North Padre Island (or Upper Padre Island) benefits from an average annual temperature of 71.2
degrees offering year round outdoor activities such as fishing, birding,
surfing, kayaking, kite boarding, hiking, beachcombing, golfing, swimming,
tennis, horseback riding, sailing, swimming, windsurfing, camping,
snorkeling, bicycling, beachcombing, relaxing on the
beaches and more.
Being “On Upper Padre Island” is a unique experience that offers both the young and
young at heart a wonderful lifestyle and many memories. Whether just visiting or
have made the choice to become an Islander it doesn't take long to know why
